SUBSTITUTE

If I were to substitute something within my project I think that it would be my materials. There are still so many more materials that I could have explored into other than house found items to introduce sustainability. For example, there are different fibres and ways of creating my own sustainable materials. Like pineapple leaf fibres or other plant fibres that are natural and eco friendly. However, as I did not have access to these or have the materials to make these, I decided that I would use waste materials instead and put them into second hand use.

COMBINE

To combine, I would also focus on combining more materials into my outcomes. Or combing more ideas of research to influence my work. For example, as I looked into dance and sound, maybe I could have made other ways of incorporating this into my designs. Using sound to create texture, colour or mood may change my project and lead it into a new direction or finding.

ADAPT

To adapt, I would reshape the silhouette of my garment by finding more materials that can enhance larger shapes. As I created the outcome for the bottom of the garment, I realised that the material I used did not introduce much volume as I wanted within my illustrations. The material was more silky and similar to romanticism night wear so it was more soft and flowing. Even when I gathered the ends hoping for more volume, it still fell around the human body rather than stood up by itself.

MODIFY, MAGNIFY/MINIFY

I would modify my design if I could magnify or minify my textile samples before stitching them together. As right now they are quite uniformly, I could explore more into what it would look like if I made them in different sizes and how will my pattern be different if I did that. I think that by magnifying this, I could have used more thicker materials that did not allow me to make the small sizes of textile samples. While minifying it I could explore in more smaller materials or threads. I think that it will be able to introduce more texture into my design and form a sense of contrast and more individuality within each piece.

PUT TO ANOTHER USE

To put my project into another use, I think that I would explore more into how I could transform the way of presenting my project. I could extend it beyond fashion or creating a garment. I could look more into making it more sculptural or think about the ways of creating more structure on the body. I think that if I were to be more experimental, I would use thicker strudel elements that allows the garment to not only work on the body but also as an individual piece by itself. Therefore, it can also encourage more sustainability as it will be multi-functional

ELIMINATE

The area that I could eliminate within my design would be maybe the coloured yarns. If I found more fabrics within the same colours and made the whole garment more monochrome I think that it may fit more well within my theme. As right now, the colours are mainly blue and grey, they are still in different tones which makes it look mix matched together. I think that if I had more materials I could eliminate some of the different tones in blue and make it more in harmony with each other.

REARRANGE/REVERSE

To rearrange and change something, I would want to do more research at the beginning of the project and get more influence from other areas to broaden my knowledge. As I realised I also looked at a lot of paintings within my research, I could add more of their elements into my design as I mainly focused on other sculptural aspects. For example, I could refer to their mood or the use of colour or symbolism.
